The One True Church

Part 1

For by one spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bound or free; and have been all made to drink into one spirit.

There is one body, and one spirit, even as you are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

There are many, many churches in the world but there is only one true church. It is called by many names in the scriptures to designate its origin, relationship, responsibility, and destiny. It is called “the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, God’s building, God’s husbandry, God’s temple, God’s household of faith, the flock of Christ. It is called “the church of the firstborn whose names are written in heaven, a peculiar people, a chosen nation, a royal priesthood, a purchased possession, the salt of the earth, the light of the world, the innumerable company of saints, composed of every nation, tongue, tribe and station, and color.” It is the one true universal church of the apostles’ reed. Without membership in this one true church there is no salvation, to be outside this one true church is to be lost forever.

How important it is then that we should be familiar with this one true church, how to enter it, and what its program is. Yet strange to say, very few, very, very few, among religious church-going people know anything about this one true church, the body of Christ.
